The truth about those castor oil claims

Published 3 months ago • 2 min read

Hello there!

Everything old is new again.

And this is certainly true for castor oil, which is having its moment in the spotlight on social platforms.

Like all natural remedies, there is often a lot of doubt and a too-good-to-be-true element when it comes to the claims that influencers make about castor oil.

Now, while I've always been aware of the traditional uses of castor oil, I did some additional research on PubMed to find scientific papers that discuss this increasingly popular oil.

And I found some really captivating information that I'm going to share with you throughout the rest of this month.

So, starting with this email, I'm giving you a 5-part email masterclass on The Truth About Castor Oil for Hormone Balance and Women's Health.

Here's what you'll learn in this 5-part email masterclass:

  • Today: Introduction to castor oil and its purported benefits for hormone balance
  • Email 2: How Castor Oil Actually Works to Support Hormonal Balance
  • Email 3: The Correct Way to Use Castor Oil
  • Email 4: Safety and Precautions When Using Castor Oil
  • Email 5 (Saturday): Other Benefits and Uses of Castor Oil For Women's Health and Wellness

Let's Start At The Beginning: What Is Castor Oil?

Castor oil is extracted from the seeds of the castor plant (Ricinus communis).

The resulting oil is:

  • odorless.
  • incredibly viscous and sticky.

It's an old remedy that has been used in many different cultures and traditions, including Ayurveda (traditional Indian medicine).

The active ingredient in castor oil is a fatty acid called ricinoleic acid. This single ingredient is said to be responsible for the many benefits of this oil as listed below.

Why Should You Care About Castor Oil for Hormone Balance?

Although the FDA only approves the use of castor oil as a laxative for extremely severe constipation, it has historically been used to support:

  • detoxification (in Ayurveda it's used in cleanses precisely because of its laxative effect).
  • digestive function.
  • lymphatic system.

Not familiar with the lymphatic system? It's like your body's sewer system. And if it's not functioning properly, all the gunk that should leave your body...simply doesn't (imagine what that does to your hormones and overall health!).

In addition, castor oil has traditionally been used to lower inflammation (which also factors into hormonal imbalances).

In fact, one research paper I found states:

Observational studies indicate that topical application of ricinoleic acid (RA), the main component of castor oil, exerts remarkable analgesic [pain relieving] and anti-inflammatory effects.

As you can see, castor oil supports multiple systems in the body by supporting detoxification, digestion and lymphatic flow. Plus it's known for it's anti-inflammatory properties.

This is why some experts believe strongly in incorporating castor oil in a wellness routine for hormone balance.

What Next?

Keep an eye on your inbox for email #2 on Saturday morning.

In that email, we're going to dive deeper into how castor oil actually works on other systems of the body that I didn't cover in this email.

Stay tuned and until then, I hope you have a lovely day!
